                                "Eleven minutes" book review

“I can choose either to be a victim of the world or an adventurer in search of treasure. It's all a question of how I view my life"                                                                                                                    ― Paulo Coelho, Eleven Minutes

Love is something that breaks you to such an extent that you will give up hope of living, but you have to live with that pain. This book is all about pain and love.

This is the story of a prostitute, Maria, a Brazilian woman. Maria was a brave young lady. Maria fell in love with a man who was older than her, and at that time she was only 11 years old. She loved that man very much, but he chose to leave her. After that, Maria fell in love again, but he had an affair with one of her friends. She got heartbroken, and then, after that, Maria decided to leave that area of Brazil and go to Switzerland, leaving her family behind. Since then, Maria has lost faith in love; she believes that she will never find it again. She goes there and starts working in a bar, and one day she gets into a fight with her manager. After that, Maria leaves and goes on her way, and one of her friends suggests that she start a modelling career, which she tries but doesn't have much success with. Then an Arab offers her 1000 francs to spend a night with him, and Maria accepts because she needs the money. After spending the night with that Arab, another friend of hers suggested that she make this her profession, and she began learning. After much learning and practice, she became the city's top prostitute. And the only reason every second client demands her is because Maria satisfies her clients not only sexually but also mentally; she talks with them and tries to share their sorrows. One day Maria meets a man named Ralf; he is a very talented artist. Maria starts talking and meeting with Ralf, and Maria gets so lost in Ralf that she starts to feel that she is in love with him.

Maria forbids herself from loving because she has been betrayed by love, but she falls in love with Ralf anyway. After that, she makes herself only sexually available to every client because she gives her heart to Ralf. Maria plans to leave Ralf, but her plan fails again because Maria wants to have sex with Ralf by provoking his internal sexual desire.

The title of this book, "Eleven Minutes," is basically the sexual duration that Maria went through with Ralf. In that eleventh minute, she gets so involved that they are not only satisfying their own lust but also entering into each other's souls. In the end, Maria returns home to her parents without telling Ralf about her plans. She had enough money to start her farm and enough experience to live her life peacefully. Only by reading "eleven minutes" will you be able to comprehend what Paulo attempted to explain.
